2/don’t really know what day it is/13 – Namaste

Flight to Dubai is about 11 hours. The Emirates airline is extremely nice and had two floors, except the top floor was only for first class. From what I am told, they have chairs that expand into beds, a bar, and unlimited food…but that could be a rumor. Our normal people seats were perfectly fine. We each had a tv, a blanket, pillow, little travel case with a toothbrush, toothpaste, and socks, and headphones. I slept for most of the flight, but also snuck in a few episodes of modern family and watched the Disney movie Brave. The food on the plane was good, and they knew that I was a vegetarian before I ordered and delivered my food to me and the other vegetarians (there were a lot!) before everyone else. At night, the lights in the airplane are blue and there are stars on the ceiling…very cool. And there was a crew of like 50 people (I took a picture don’t worry).

Our layover in Dubai was very quick. As soon as we got there we walked right to security, right to the gait, and then right onto the plane. We flew Emirates to Delhi which was only a 2 hour and 30 minute flight. We waited at the airport for our country coordinator, took a bus to the hostel, and moved into rooms – 5 people per room. At this point, it is about 7:15am India time on Feb 4th. We lost a day from traveling. Wonder how the superbowl is going.

I took a nap from 8am to 11:30am and then we met up at 12. We ate a delicious lunch at the hostel, which was bread, potatoes, rice, noodles, and some kind of bean spice sauce. All carbs, but so yummy. Then we took taxis over to our classroom. In India, they drive on the other side of the road and the driver’s seat is on the right side of the car. Being overly tired and watching cars make right turns is a difficult task. There are also a ton of rickshaws on the road, and lots of people riding bikes and walking between cars. At the classroom we had a brief introduction to India by the program director, and a very brief overview of the do’s and don’ts of Indian culture. We will move into our homestays on Wednesday night.

Tonight we are all hanging out at the hostel. A few of us went for a brief walk outside, but there is nothing around here except all of the embassys which are all wired off. Can’t wait to sleep tonight!! Excited for this crazy first adventure!
