Today was a big reflection day. We had another debrief about
our trip to the mayor’s office and a chance to finalize our letter to him. Then
we had an urban planning and sustainable environments class. Then we had time
for lunch, but I had to eat, plan an Argentina project for before we leave, and
help our fellow plan an activity for later. So much to do during lunch. After
lunch we had learning community and got ice cream. The day ended really late
and I ended up stopping at the beach along the way home, so I didn’t get home
until around 7:15. I was about to take a shower when my host mom’s son called
asking if we wanted to go over there for dinner. Of course we do! He said he would
be like 15-20 minutes. So I didn’t shower and got ready instead.
15-20 minutes really means 2 hours. He picked us up 2 hours
later, which was fine and semi expected. We went to his amazingly beautiful
house and played with his three adorable kids. It was his oldest son’s
birthday, and he just turned 12. He also has a 6 year old boy and a 4 year old girl, who are very cute. We
didn’t eat dinner until 11pm, but the dinner was amazing! One of the best meals
I have had in Senegal. We finished dinner around 12, had some incredible cake,
and then waited until around 1 before we left. Good thing we don’t have class
tomorrow because of Independence Day!
