Today was the last day with our host familiesL Because we got back to
late last night, I woke up around noon ish and ate breakfast, which I think is
pretty normal considering that we don’t eat lunch til 3. Then I went upstairs,
packed and got organized, until I ate again at 3. We ate curry for
lunch…confusing because it tasted like Indian food and made me miss India. But
nonetheless it was yummy.
Then it was time to say goodbye to my host family. It was so
sad to say goodbye. I left all of my contact information, so hopefully we will
stay in touch. We all met up at a restaurant around the corner with our stuff
to get a taxi. We took a taxi to this really sketchy bus “station” and ended up
taking a van to Saly for spring break. It was supposed to be $3 a person, but
we got ripped off and had to pay $6 a person. So not a big deal because it was
like a 2 hour car ride. On the way, our driver randomly handed an undisclosed
box of something to a random guy on the street, presumably who had was talking
to on the phone during the ride. Real life. When we got to the fire station in
Saly, another man was there to drive us to our house.
We finally got to our beach house around 7pm and somehow
communicated with a ton of people in French without a single French speaker
with us. This house is unbelievable. We have a huge kitchen, with every cooking
tool and utensil imaginable. We have pet birds. We have a guard man. We have
hot water and toilet paper. There is internet. There’s a pool. I never want to
leave.
At night, some of us ventured out to get dinner. We ended up
walking around the corner to a pizza place and getting a bunch of pies. After
we all stuffed our faces, we jumped in the pool and played some banana grams.
Such a great first day. Pumped for this week.
